Creative Spotlight: Island Goddess & Red Orange Flower

Created these two pieces at the Creative Session on Saturday. The Island Goddess was an image I had in my mind that morning, although it evolved when the brush was put to canvas. This is what usually happens, I have a general image in mind, but once the paint goes down, things change. And I like it that way. I like the surprises that come from each piece. The Red Orange flower happened because I wanted to use those colors. I didn’t know it would end up looking like a flower. At first I just sponged the orange (color is actually called ‘red gold’) and then was going to put a bright blue flower, but then changed my mind and kept it to the warm colors. Toward the end I used water to blend some of the rougher parts of the paint. Acrylics can totally act like watercolors if you want them to.
